He sure was, Kosko. I've liked him since childhood, with fond memories of his weekly dramatic anthology series and the Zane Grey one as well.
When he died his obituary was a front page story,--not dominating the page like in recent years, just a mention, a picture, a short bio. Hugely gifted, Powell was a first rate producer. Aaron Spelling loved the guy, without whom he once claimed he'd still be sweeping floors somewhere. He was a Powell protégée, took over Four Star when Powell died.
Powell also helped the careers of such struggling young writers as Roy Huggins, director Sam Peckinpah, who spoke very highly of him in a late career interview. Powell also helped boost the career of such up and coming players as David Janssen, Chuck Connors and Dean Jones. He was very good at helping people who needed work, whether young or veteran.
