Mineral exploration. I enjoy hiking around remote parts of California, Oregon, and Nevada looking for interesting minerals. Found some gold, fluorite, lapiz lazuli, sphalerite, galena, pyrite, amazonite, and realgar. Have you ever been to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum? They have multiple rooms dedicated to minerals and gems with some amazing specimens. After going through it, I realized I didn't know much about them. I haven’t been the LA Natural History Museum since I was a little kid. I’ll have hit it up next time I’m in LA. I majored in geology at school and briefly worked as an exploration geologist for a gold company in Nevada. Nowadays I’m a geo-engineer working on construction projects. It’s good work, but it lacks emphasis on mineralogy that disciplines of geology possess. Nothing quite like finding a cool crystal/gemstone from the ground.
