If you are in Melbourne go see a game of Aussie Rules at the MCG. It truly is the one sport that is much better to watch live at the stadium than on TV.
If you are in Sydney or Brisbane there are a couple of interesting Rugby League games on, but the highlight in Sydney will be Australia v New Zealand Rugby Union Match on Aug 18....

I'll be moving around a little bit, but I will indeed be in Sydney on the 18th. My guess is that I'll be unlikely to get tickets to that, and I'm not sure I'll have the time, but it's good to know that there's a big event to check out. If I can't go what is the best environment to watch?

And any other general advice of stuff to see and do in Cairns, Ayers Rock, or Sydney?
