MLB's official record books show that McGwire and Sosa both passed Ruth and Maris with 70 and 66 HRs that year, but now everyone knows that they cheated and those HR numbers are tainted by cheating.

(The 5th may also have been tainted by cheating, but it hasn't been uncovered yet. It took 6 years to uncover the cheating in SpyGate so it's possible that the 5th Super Bowl may have also been won by cheating but the cheating just hasn't been uncovered yet.)

As far as this goes (You know....the ACTUAL topic) as someone else wrote baseball was struggling bad from the 1994 strike. I think people had suspicions, but MLB had to bring fans back.
I admit though it was weird. As someone else pointed out, Sosa hits a homer in Shea and fans cheered...fn weird.
