As usual, I watch these movies long after they’re in theaters. And I just finished watching the last 30 min. of a movie on TV that bears absolutely no similarities to superhero films— Beauty and the Beast! But I thought it’d be best to watch Ragnarok, which got great reviews (here and from critics), before Netflix did away with it, as is Netflix’s wont. Anyway… I’m about 15 min. into this thing (phone call came in and I had to put it on pause), and I’m just not sure what to make of it. Beginning was a hoot, especially “Thor, son of Odin”/“Surtur, son of—a bitch”! And it’s fun to see Anthony Hopkins having fun, especially about a Shakespearean spoof called The Tragedy of Loki! But what’s weird is that the last Thor movie, or whatever it was ( Avengers? I can’t keep track), made this huge deal about how Loki was taking Odin’s place, and now in the first few minutes Loki’s exposed. Just feels that that big twist is kinda negated or something… And I would like to see Thor’s dreams as well as hear about them. Will chime in when I see some more.
