COURAGE UNDER FIRE in 1996 -- I recall wondering about that young kid playing the damaged medic interviewed by Denzel Washington about Meg Ryan (not many can steal a scene from Denzel). I waited for his name in the end credits -- Matt Damon (try to remember that).
Then the following year Coppola gave him the lead role in THE RAINMAKER -- which positioned him for GOOD WILL HUNTING (as well as the important title character in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN).
