It is very difficult to win a tournament outside your own continent. Previously only Brazil have ever managed it (and now Germany in the last WC). I think that is probably why the odds on Germany are short.
But the world is changing, going to a new continent is no longer the culture shock that it used to be just 15 years ago. It is much easier now to stay in touch with your friends, watch your favourite shows, listen to your favourite music, keep the same routines and habits like you have at home with social media and facebook and what have you. If you want it to be, you can go abroad now and it can be like you never left home. That was almost impossible several years ago.
So on that basis, I wouldn't rule out those South American outsiders. I think it is wide open.
But listening to me is a sure-fire way of losing money. As always, I'm keeping my money in my wallet!
