Why not CREATE new roles and new films? Loved Wonder Woman. Needed a film, never had one, and it was great.

Why not do a Ghostbusters where (If Murray didn't want to do it) and Raimis died....
Have Oscar at college studying, or just graduated and he's a researcher for the parapsychology Dept. He is partners with a female parapsychology doctor trying to finish the research of the OG Ghostbusters...
Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson own an Occult Book store and semi-retired. Have Oscar and his female colleague discover paranormal activity. They go to Stanz and Winston for help (due to their knowledge).
The team could be young Oscar and his female colleague with Aykroyd and Hudson. The older guys are more behind the scenes and making the tech for the two younger ones.
Boom, you have a plot, it works, makes more sense, and a female Ghostbuster and it doesn't feel forced. Have a cameo by Sigorny Weaver as Oscar's mom. Let Venkman's ghost appear as a cameo like Slimer was Belushi's ghost in the OG film.
That's acceptable. But an ALL Female Ghostbusters with no connection to the original was dumb. Nobody wanted it.
