I think the OP makes a good point. basically James Bond must remain white as you can't really change major roles like that as like you said trying to change Shaft etc to a white guy would be a bad idea etc.
based on the fairly recent talk... Henry Cavill seems to be a decent candidate for James Bond and I think that might just work but we shall see.
basically if Idris Elba becomes James Bond... it's clearly politics at play.
p.s. hell, even if someone is for Idris Elba for playing James Bond... he's at a age that's pushing it to start playing James Bond as he's in his mid-to-late 40's which even if one was to overlook the starting age point, which he's already pushing it here, it seems by early 50's is the general limit for playing Bond (NOTE: I know Roger Moore would have been about 56-57 when the 1985 Bond movie was filmed/released (he would have been 58 later that year) but that's really pushing it as I figure I would generally end the role no later than 54 years old (with maybe a rare exception if the right person comes along and appears young enough)) so he would not be around for long as James Bond if you figure roughly one movie every 3-4 years. but someone like Henry Cavill on the other hand is pretty much at that perfect age to start playing James Bond which I would say is around mid-30's or so.
