"Multiple jobs with differing stress levels" is the closest answer to my situation. I do work-for-hire jobs and sometimes I work as a contractor. (I work as a musician, composer and arranger.) Basically it depends on the people involved with each gig, their personalities, their demands, how their demands gel with my own dispositions (sometimes not very well), what sort of deadlines we're dealing with--sometimes there's high pressure to do something faster than it's really possible to do it, and especially when I'm functioning as a contractor, there can be problems if people are relatively irresponsible, if they're flaking out, etc.
So sometimes very little stress, sometimes a high degree of stress, and then there's everything in between, and a job can be an ongoing (well, usually off and on/periodic) thing for a number of years or it can be just a couple hours just one day (and again, anything in between).
