Well, I can't argue that any of the sequels or Bates Motel came close to topping Hitchcock's original, but Psycho II is certainly worth a look. Ditto for Bates Motel, which is one of the most entertaining horror shows in recent memory. I'm just saying, it's not all worth brushing aside. Bates Motel was great, and Freddie Highmore was genius. I felt they could have wrapped up Bates Motel in 4 seasons instead of 5. Too much segue and contrived plot offshoots that took away from what the show was really all about, Norma and Norman. They made Dylan and his insipid wife the focus of righteousness and wholesomeness and it began to teeter over into soap.
Norma began to be painful and annoying as well, as great as Farmiga was. She fought tooth and nail to get Norman committed to that nice psychiatric hospital, even going as far to marry that corrupt douchy cop Romero to do so and then she refused to commit him indefinitely because he wanted to come home to his mommy. I think this writing aspect could have been handled better and with more skill.
