Pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. I like Sarah Gadon as an actress too. my biggest problem with it was it didn't do enough to really set up Dracula as the villain we all know him to be and I am not sure if that was 'cause there were plans for a sequel that would have seen the character going down a darker path but at the end of the movie he looked more like an Anti-hero than a soulless monster and I was expecting him to be more evil and sadistic at the end. I think you're probably right that they planned to take him down a darker path in a sequel...had there been one.
