petrolino I love The X-Files, which I watching from the beginning on Netflix. It has some great episodes, but the overall alien arc is what drags it down some, Chris Carter admitted he had no endgame back then. The most recent revival episodes have FINALLY attempted to provide some more insight and closure, but most likely won't continue without Gillian Anderson having left. I stopped watching Californication on TV after season 3, not because I didn't like it, I just lost track of it when it returned. I do plan to finish it someday. Also trying to finish Aquarius, season 2. I'd recommend picking up again with 'Californication' when you get the chance because series 3 and series 6 have been my least favourites, too much about strippers, hookers & faceless rock groupies. Series 4 & 5 have a lot of heart and I found them the funniest.
Exactly like with 'Buffy', I like watching early episodes of 'The X-Files' when it was a different amazing case to crack each week. What weakens successful tv shows for me is forced romantic angles and prolonged soap opera, I think both those shows got a bit bogged down in trying to tell bigger stories about the peoples' lives, rather than just letting them do their jobs.
