No I'd say they always wanted to push Black Panther for Best Film. Avengers Infinity War will get pushed for Best Popular Film. No, Disney always knew Black Panther had no chance for Best Picture. That's why Disney bullied the Academy into creating the Most Popular Film category so Black Panther can get that award. Black Panther getting the Most Popular Film award (and not getting an Best Picture nomination) is as sure a thing as everyone who was disintegrated into dust in Infinity War being brought back alive in Avengers 4. |
