The "Based on a True Story" tagline is just used to sell the movie. It means almost nothing and should be ignored.
I much prefer when the movie says, "Inspired by true events."

The problem is, people believe it. Just read the reviews on IMDb. EVery other nitwit thinks it's simply wonderful because it's "a true story!" Usually followed by a few OMG's!!!
They did the same with Argo, and that pile of piffle even won an AA. Ben Assflex was peddling his bull on every talk show out there as "a true story!"
Sure thing Ben. Except for all the baloney you made up to insert the American CIA as heroes.
Why is it so hard to simply admit it's a made up fairy tale? Nothing wrong with either movie - no need to embellish by tricking the dunces into believing it was a true story.
