My understanding of that was nolan fans created loads of socks & voted down stuff to get TDK into the top. I don't know how many sock accounts were created but they absolutely downvoted everything else in the top ten to get TDK to the #1 spot. I was there, I saw the threads encouraging people to do it. I was a regular on the TDK board from 2007 to the day IMDb message boards went dark. Eventually TDK dropped from #1 to wherever it is now, but I always thought that fan war was ridiculous.
It's a great film, one of my all time favorites, but not in my personal top ten. People always mention that list both positively and negatively, and I've never understood why. It's a fan vote open to any monkey with access to the internet, and the list isn't supposed to reflect cinematic quality. It just tallies the votes on the site. It has as much cultural relevance as this thread.
Thank you. I remember the IMDb boards on the issue. I remember one guy-blueberryicedcoffee living on the Marvel boards going on & on about how great TDK was & the position of it on the IMDb top 250 list which is when I started wondering why none of the typical top films were there & how the hell did Shawshank Redemption end up #1. Because they downvoted all the typical competition & that one slipped through. Blueberry is the one who always linked to They Shoot Pictures, a director slanted site.
