I feel like it had already been toppled, people just have too much nostalgia to see it yet. In fairness it shouldn't be compared to other CBMs. I view it as a crime drama, not an action film. The MCU embraces the stories' comic book roots while Nolan tried to ground his trilogy in reality as much as he possibly could. They're just very different films. Which is what kills it for me. I look at mug shots every day at work. They do not let people keep full face paint on. They would scrub that off, then send the picture out. Gordon claimed they werent allowing any slip-ups to allow Joker's attorney a technicality, yet he lets an unknown person in a bat suit rough him up? Batman is fantasy. To try to make him work in the real world doesn't work.
