In an episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea titled The Ghost of Moby Dick a scientist, Dr. Walter Bryce (Edward Binns), spots an unusually large whale. He wants to get an EKG of "the largest heart in the world" for more knowledge about heart disease. He takes big risks reminiscent of Captain Ahab and his boat is destroyed by the whale. His son dies in the accident. Later he wants to use the Seaview to further his work. His wife, also with a doctorate, Dr. Ellen Bryce (June Lockhart), thinks he is crazy to keep taking too much risk. She thinks he just wants to kill a "dumb animal" for its having killed his son. The Seaview is nearly destroyed by the whale and Walter is killed when he attacks the whale. Admiral Nelson is feeling he should have done more to save Walter. Ellen says he was "already dead" in the sense that "It's almost as though he died the very first moment he saw that whale."
