I thought it a little questionable that he took lodgings at The Lowry Hotel when he first came to Manchester, where he is still a guest. A very nice pad by all accounts. But his staying at an hotel can't help but suggest the word 'transient' coming to mind. At Chelsea he moved into a club-rented townhouse in Belgravia (10 Eaton Place) so at least he had a sense of 'being at home'.
It must be slightly strange to be living under the same roof as hundreds of people coming and going every day, but under which you remain an indefinite resident. You get the feeling there may be a packed suitcase under his bed ready and waiting for when the time comes to get out of Dodge. 27 months is a long time to be in the same hotel, luxuries not withstanding. But at £816 per night (minus loyalty discount of course) I bet he still misses some of his homely creature comforts, like having a cat to kick or going out into his own garden looking for butterflies from which to remove wings.
