The Dead Zone is a bit closer story wise.
The Shining is the better movie. And it’s not that the Shining is really far off plot wise, it’s just nuanced very differently. Book Jack is as much a victim as Danny and his mom to the evils of he hotel, but movie version doesn’t feel that way. Also doesn’t give Jack his sense of redemption in the end, which makes the book ending honestly far more positive...especially for a King novel.
