I was a big fan of the original series and this was very disappointing. I don't mind the visual style that much, it's eye popping and memorable. But I loathed the story and most of the characters. Speed Racer especially, though Emile Hirsch was a perfect casting choice. He's played as a racing obsessed doofus. And yeah, Spritle (the brother) was just a useless brat. Matthew Fox and John Goodman were spot on casting as well for their parts. I do remember enjoying the second half more than the plodding first act;was it really 135 minutes long? Good gravy! If I rated it after when I first saw, it'd be very low but it's probably like a 4/10 today.
