This series has also shown what bob and I have been saying: you can get away with picking bits and pieces cricketers in England (Woakes, Ali and Curran have all put in significant performances at times in this series) and the argument can even be made that you need bits and pieces cricketers when playing there. But when you're playing attritional test cricket in Oz or the flatter SC pitches pick your best 6 bats, your best 4 bowlers and a keeper at 7.
