Should stick Stokes in at 3 or 4. Until better options present themselves at a couple of spots: Cook Jennings Pope Root Ali Stokes Buttler Curran Woakes Broad Anderson The biggest problem England has with their batsmen across the board is that once they are dropped, they tend to fall further into the mire. Over the last 30-35 years, almost universally across the board every better than average Australian batsman has been dropped at least once, gone back to 1st Class cricket and worked on issues and came back a better player. For some reason, this isn’t happening in England. Where’s Ballance ? Lyth ? Stoneman ? Haseeb ? Eoin Morgan ? These guys should be banging on the door with performances demanding to be picked. Instead they turn to another green horn in Pope, and resurrect Ali who we all know is a bit and pieces player with extensive technique issues. England seemingly now have 6 guys in their side who are ideal numbers 6, 7 & 8 - Buttler, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Stokes and now Curran. Pretty soon, the bowling will match the batting up the top because Anderson and Broad cannot go forever....
