No I am not moviekid.
In regards to the original Wonka I wasn't making an argument I was stating why I prefer the remake. I wasn't saying my opinion or preference was right or wrong. I see what Wilder and the film is going for but it just falls flat for me. My taste is more towards the theatrical and OTT than the nuanced and subtle. People often say there is no difference between best and favorite, well if that is the case than the remake is the better movie as far as I'm concerned. Besides, any time someone makes a post asking for people to name remakes that are better than the originals what they are really asking is which remakes do you like more than the originals. I see no one has responded to anyone who has said they prefer the highly mediocre Texas Chainsaw remake to the original and there is a far beigger gap in quality between those movie than there is between the two Wonka movies. Texas Chainsaw 2003 replaces visceral insanity with excessive style where everything is bigger, lauder and more graphic. Bad move. I understand why the MTV generation prefers it though.
I don't think either Wonka movies are anything special but I do slightly prefer the remake because it is more to my taste in style.
The Evil Dead remake is garbage and is a movie that thinks by making the movie an analogy for drug addiction that somehow makes it intelligent. Also, removing Ash is like taking Indiana Jones out of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
You like the Wonka that lures children into his factory, murders most and their parents and then tries to trap his "favorite" with him alone and make sure the child never see's his family again. Click on the Cracked article that another poster provided above. It's spot on and funny at times if a bit too long.
Even if I saw the movie that way it would still work for me. The movie is essentially about an emotionally distant and very disturbed man child that just wants someone to connect to but is going about it the wrong way. He "kills" the parents because of his own hatred of adults because of how he was treated by his own father. All he wanted was to be loved.
