I think the conflict is between Black Panther and Blackkklansmen.
Sibling rivalry as it were (Disney and Blumhouse), and they both want to get that worthless PR boost so they can make a useless political statement.
Disney is more aggressive about it, but Spike Lee carries some token clout with the Oscar crowd and Blumhouse is the new Weinstein Co.
Maybe its time to get Warren Beatty to make another strategic envelope mistake so they both can claim victory?

They should have Mr T come out and say he was told to present the award for Best Picture but he "pities the fool" who thinks they can tell Mr T what to do so instead, the producers of Black Panther and the producers of BlacKKKlansman will go on stage and fight it out Wakanda style. Whoever is left standing gets the statue.
It would be the most watched Oscars in history if they do that.
