I haven't for a while no, but iirc Bobby & John had some sort of falling out a while back which seeing how Sam was surprised Dean was hunting alone in the pilot also suggest Dean doing his own thing is relatively new, so anything John declared was law basically, and Sam wouldn't have seen Bobby in years either way due to going off to college, and I don't think they ever really showcased the relationship past early high school years for Sam, and that stuff does happen irl, but I think more so how the boys became so reliant on Bobby was kind of silly, before him they could research and learn things for themselves, and same with after, but whilst Bobby was around how often would they only half learn about a creature before turning to him or not bother at all?
Does anyone but me miss Garth? like I wish we could have had him still be the new Bobby, even as a werewolf, he wouldn't need to go anywhere but he could still help out, plus a once a year pop in for help would be fun I mean I wonder how he would react to Jack? Oooh what if they had given us bad ass Garth with like a massive scar and a missing eye from apocalypse world, make a running joke of all his injuries, like he's lost an eye, 4 teeth, both his big toes, 2 ribs, a kidney and a nut fighting the angels, even if it's just so Jack or Cas could heal him back to perfect health for the joke of Cas telling him you may want to check your fully equipped now and then walks off as badass Garth checks he has both plums.
I was glad they brought Castiel back near the end of Season 7 ‘cause I thought killing him off was the biggest mistake the show made and a lot of ‘Supernatural’ fans did too which is why he was brought back and funny enough I recently heard Castiel wasn’t originally meant to stay on after Season 4 and it was supposed to be Anna who was going to stay on as the angel that helped Sam and Dea and she would have also been Dean’s main love interest but the showrunners decided to keep Castiel on and eventually kill Anna off ‘cause Castiel was so popular with fans and I think they could have kept both of them and had Anna as somebody who occasionally dropped in from time to time. I liked Balthazar too and I think Season 7 would have benefited from keeping him but I think they wanted Sam and Dean to be alone in that season to make the Leviathans a bigger threat to them.
I would have liked it if they had kept Ellen and Jo around for more seasons too and before they made Bobby a bigger part of the show Ellen basically had his spot but for some unknown they cut Ellen and Jo’s roles after Season 2 and only brought them back in Season 5 to kill them off and some fans say it was ‘cause Jo was meant to be Dean’s love interest and it didn’t work out but I think she would have been better with Sam and Jo would have been better on the team as a friend and not a love interest for the brothers and I don’t get why that diminished Ellen’s role. One character I am surprised hasn’t been seen again is Krissy Chambers (who you may recall was played by the same actress who played Evelyn in ‘Arrow’) and I thought they would have got her back for ‘Wayward Daughters’ ‘cause Krissy was training to be a hunter like Sam and Dean and her Father and they made it look like she was going to return again in later seasons.
I had almost forgotten about her until we recently re-watched Season 7 and 8 and it is kinda like how they had the Antichrist (Jesse Turner) appear back in Season 5 and then he was never seen again and they gave Jack the role of Lucifer’s son later. I was surprised they killed Garth off ‘cause I thought he would have lived until the end and just been a character they brought in every now and then to help Sam and Dean and for comic relief but I heard the actor’s busy schedule made it difficult for him to be used and they had plans to use him a lot more but he was too busy so they killed him off.
GARTHS DEAD!!!
*checks wiki*
*sigh of relief* NOT FUNNY DEB!! Garth is alive you cruel soul he's just a retired hunter turned peaceful werewolf, he's fine, FINE I say, give me a bloody heart attack with this chicanery an bullshit woman.
Yeah writing of Jo & Ellen was crappy, I liked Jo & Dean's flirtatiousness and honestly I think had they kept them around it could have been a fun element to play with, they could have had them be flirty for years, jealous over each others hooking up with others, Dean being macho to show up Jo's boyfriend or something would have been fun for an episode because it's not like making the guys look like tits isn't one of the shows charms, but I said it before I think Supernatural has had an issue when introducing characters meant to be longterm characters they go a little to heavy handed, which is why the best and most beloved ones are the ones not meant to be focal points of the series like Bobby, Cas, Crowley, Gabriel and such, their not written to be loved 12 episodes down the road but right away so that if they do kill them off in 4 episodes you still give a shit.
Yeah they went kill crazy in those seasons I think because they kept expecting the show to end, S5 was the intended final season for Kripke but the CW just kept renewing them, and I don't think they wanted too many loose ends left if the show did get cancelled, where as now with universes being such a big deal they don't care because anyone left alive could be spun off into their own shit so who cares, I just wish they brought back more of the older characters from apocalypse world, why couldn't we get apocalypse Jo & Ellen, Apocalypse Rufus dammit I want it.
I never really liked the Krissy character, they kind of replaced her with Claire and gave her a more prominent tie to the guys where as Krissy didn't have one, also wasn't her end off about her going to try and live a normal life, I think you need the odd character like that who doesn't fall into the life to kind of sell how consuming it is for these characters who do, and that anyone who looks at it properly wouldn't actually want to have their lives.
