How would you prevent ties in NFL games?

I'd have them keep playing until one team scores, but I'd maybe make it shorter overtime periods where each period, each team has less people on the field. So the first 5-minute overtime period could be 9 per side, then a 5-minute 7 per side period, then 5, all the way down to 3. That should make it easier for someone to score.
