I believe in God. I am not a member of the Catholic Church. I think it is disrespectful to say, "Oh my God" for everyday mundane things. And I feel it is really stupid for a non-believer to say it. What does it mean when an Atheist says, "Oh my God" when an Atheist has no god? Stupid. But I just told you what it meant to an atheist. It's an exclamation that has no more meaning than what you attach to it. So my answer would be, if it means something offensive "to you", then you probably shouldn't say it. Because clearly your conscience is bothered by the fact that you've associated some special meaning to it. I on the other hand attach no special meaning to words, and consequently don't believe in any such thing as "good words" or "bad words". It's all superstition, and tradition, and cultural to me. I agree on a certain level it is just a saying. Everybody says it once in a while. My objection is of those who say it 20 times a day. Unless one lives in a cave, this expression is heard constantly every day in person, on TV, . . . etc.
