I agree on a certain level it is just a saying. Everybody says it once in a while. My objection is of those who say it 20 times a day.

I feel like your second statement might be something of an exaggeration. I personally do not hear someone use that expression every day in person, or on TV. So, it might come down to exactly who you are hanging out with every day, and what their tendencies are, and what you choose to watch on television. Having said that, I tend to agree with your overall point. Someone saying ANYTHING over and over again is annoying as it is indicative of a lack of vocabulary, and a limited way of expressing themselves.
