But I just told you what it meant to an atheist. It's an exclamation that has no more meaning than what you attach to it. So my answer would be, if it means something offensive "to you", then you probably shouldn't say it. Because clearly your conscience is bothered by the fact that you've associated some special meaning to it. I on the other hand attach no special meaning to words, and consequently don't believe in any such thing as "good words" or "bad words". It's all superstition, and tradition, and cultural to me. I agree on a certain level it is just a saying. Everybody says it once in a while. My objection is of those who say it 20 times a day. Unless one lives in a cave, this expression is heard constantly every day in person, on TV, . . . etc. I feel like your second statement might be something of an exaggeration. I personally do not hear someone use that expression every day in person, or on TV. So, it might come down to exactly who you are hanging out with every day, and what their tendencies are, and what you choose to watch on television. Having said that, I tend to agree with your overall point. Someone saying ANYTHING over and over again is annoying as it is indicative of a lack of vocabulary, and a limited way of expressing themselves.
