funny you should say that. I DID think that its :arty pretentious: in the first third of the movie. But then again I think that about most David Lynch movies so be careful about that label with me.

but it has genuinely brilliant scenes in the last third of the movie and it has great music throughout so overall I didnt mind the stylization and certain mock philosophy and slowness. Looking back I stay with my 8/10 score. But its Cage and Johansson who drag it up there. Without them this would be silly/uninteresting I think.

In a way this is "John Wick if made by early David Lynch". Its a SUPER SIMPLE but super violent and fun revenge story, but focuses on lengthy slow dialogue, distinct colors and weirdness somethings seeming for the sake of weirdness. And since I love revenge porn (as in food porn, demolition porn, sky porn, not actual revenge porno) and enjoy funny gore, this was right up my alley. But I can totally see how people get turned off by its arty pretentiousness. It is there. Especially in the first half. But as soon as you get to the amazing a scene in the bathroom, you are GOOD TO GO for a really good ride!

It looks a bit superficial to me from the trailer, where as Lynch—I am not referring to his films after Mulholland Drive because I haven't seen them—still had his own stamp of originality, weirdness, depth, substance and I found them compelling. I don't mind longish slower films if the dialog is interesting. Did you find the dialog in Mandy fascinating or was it just superfluous and shallow?
