Rajagopal won because he had a good and more moderate image. Kummanam despite the BJP going all guns blazing in the campaign lost probably because of Hindutva/Sanghi image as opposed to the more moderate Murali although that was a really tough three-way fight.
Having this creepy stare on plastered across the state probably lost BJP a lot of votes in the other constituencies.
I would be stunned if BJP improve their performance in Kozhikode or Malappuram in the next election but I don't have much idea about state politics in general and elections are still a long time away. The politics of Kasargod and most of Kannur seems strange and different from rest of Kerala and while I don't think BJP will manage to win there anytime soon, they might get more votes. I'd say Trivandrum and to a lesser extent Kollam, Palakkad and Thrissur are the districts where BJP might focus on.
I've not heard about this whole Achuthanandan being the person who is getting Ezhavas to vote for LDF; do you have any article explaining that, GSW?
And yeah, Keralites really love beef and that includes a good number of Hindus and especially Ezhavas.
