Well that’s the Kapler straw that broke this camel’s back. The Phillies where better than expected this year and it was so painfully unentertaining to watch because of the Kapler experience that’s it’s not worth it. 162 games, 162 different batting orders, none of which make sense. Endless pitching changes. Stupid mistakes. His postgame press conferences were a joy as well - nothing but rainbows and unicorns no matter how badly they fucked up. I can’t stand him, I’m done until he’s gone. Who gives a shit if they get Harper, Machado and Trout - he’ll just fuck it up anyway. Try explaining to the stats geeks about 'roles' in a batting oder 1-fast, contact hitter 2- fastball eater 3-some power, good avg. 4- slugger etc... lol. Players don't develop over a season when they have to 'be' many things. A thousand times this. The 2008 Phillies, barring injuries and occasional rest days, the batting order was Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard etc. every day regardless of the opposing pitcher. As did most other teams. I think this helped their success, not detract from it. And if I see a pitcher bat 8th one more time I’m gonna puke.
