www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premiership/tableIn what is looking like the most open title race sine LaFong was in nappies, it is ironic that the two teams who have been No.s 1 & 2 over the last few years, now sit 5th & 7th, with a combined GD of 2. The demise of Celtic has been there for all to see since the defeat in the CL by AEK Athens. There is some excuse for Aberdeen who annually ship out their best players and will almost certainly lose star defender Scott McKenna in January. Ignoring Celtic's well-discussed shortcomings, it is good to see the rest trying to catch Hearts, with Rangers, Hibs, Kilmarnock and the recently promoted Livingston 5 points behind the leaders. Can the Jambos keep it going? More pressing business occurs this midweek with quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup being played. Hibs v Aberdeen Hearts v Motherwell Rangers v Ayr St Johnstone v Celtic Rangers look to have the easiest tie but Ayr, recently promoted from Division 2, now lead the Championship and must surely relish pitting their skill against the revitalised Rangers. To have any chance of winning, Celtic need to make some chances for the Griff. He's the only one who looks like scoring apart from Boyata. 6th and 7th, Izzy, not 5th and 7th: www.flashscores.co.uk/standings/Yuaw1KNm/KE29dIq2/#table;overallAnd Killie are 6 points behind Hearts, not 5.
