Check out the "New Coke" video I posted earlier in this thread. The thing that saved the Coca-Cola company after the customer backlash was their reaction (at 9:28 in the video). They told customers that they heard them, and then gave them what they wanted. Imagine if the Coca-Cola company had reacted like Lucasfilm telling customers, "You're intimidated by sugar!", "You have no taste at all!", and "Just drink it you manbaby!"
