Slightly OT: Recasting “The Thin Man”

A few years ago the entertainment press reported a Thin Man movie in development starring Johnny Depp. I nearly spit coffee through my nose. Sure glad that one never happened. Seriously, the modern actor who can give us a smooth witty personality with more than a large drop of irony is George Clooney.
But casting would not be my major worry. I'm thinking: The Thin Man in today’s Summer Blockbuster movie mind-set?
Is there going to be a noisy car chase? Blowing up a building? A 45-minute action finale with the Bad Guy’s finger on the button about to destroy all of San Francisco (or will it be Los Angeles this time around)?
I think the ability to bring the Thin Man to the screen as we remember it is a lost art.
