That’s true. I mentioned to Homer that I was concerned about modern actors’ being able to carry off the insouciant gaiety of the characters (a gaiety mixed with a toughness for Nick).

Yes, just a “what if” scenario, but (I thought) an interesting thought-experiment, especially if some producer decided he just had to remake ‘em. What would be the best possible option, then? I suppose it would be redoing the originals…I certainly couldn’t see it set in modern times.
