I always enjoyed "54" for what it was, which was a messy and trashy drama about Studio 54... or more about a young man that works at Studio 54. I enjoyed it despite it not being good.
Ryan Phillippe is absolutely physically beautiful in this movie. He was young, firm and gorgeous and full of energy and life. Its a shame he cant act.
Neve Campbell was used so much for the promotion of this film but then when you watch it she is just a glorified cameo.
Salma Hayek and Breckin Meyer are great as a young couple living in NYC during this era. The glamour, lights, drugs, fashion etc... they were great.
The real highlight of this film was Mike Myers, who gives one hell of a performance. He is a scene stealer in every scene he is in, and in a grand way. His final scene is fantastic. Its a shame this performance wasn't in a better film cause then he may have gotten himself an Oscar nomination.
The music used was great, the style was great etc... the final product was meh....
And then I saw the Directors cut... that was fantastic! Such a superior film to the theatrical one. Its a shame the studio did not allow the director to release his version of the film and butchered it. And its a shame that a lot of the footage was destroyed...
Theatrical Cut - 5/10 Directors Cut - 8.5/10
