This is from a Batman comic that someone was telling me about, but I found it actually pretty funny:
There are these two guys in a lunatic asylum, and one night they decide to escape!
They get up onto the roof, and they see a gap between the asylum and the next building; if they jump across it, they’ll be on their way to freedom. The first guy jumps right across with no problem. But his friend is too afraid of falling to make the jump.
So the first guy comes up with an idea.
He says, “Hey! I have my flashlight with me! I’ll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You’ll be able to walk across the beam!”
The second guy stares speechless at his pal for the insane thing he just said. “What do you think I am? Crazy? You’d turn it off when I was halfway across!”
Reminded me of Orson Welles’ joke about the frog and the scorpion in Mr. Arkadin…
The season come again for winter’s tales, I tell you one which my nurse told to me As watched I warily the swirling snows. “I’ll raise one up,” she swore, “of ghosts by night…”
