Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find your book, but this may help. You may also want to look into Jane Yolen’s “Pit Dragon Trilogy” and Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragonriders of Pern.” One of those looked like they could be your book, but I couldn’t find a cover like the one you remember. Oh! and if all else fails, this forum is an invaluable resource. It’s helped me a great deal (though there’s one story I remember no one’s been able to find yet). Happy hunting!
