I like it. It's high theater and it incentivizes winning the division over settling for a WC spot. Bullshit happens in pivotal games of longer series too so I don't buy the whole "if a call goes against you, that's it" as an argument against it. It sucks when you lose it (as the Mets did in 2016) but they aren't going to extend it to a longer series, and they're certainly not going to eliminate it - no sports league will ever willingly sacrifice a game's gate for any reason. interesting. couldn't one argue though that the drama of a '3 game gate' will sell out and pull in astronomical tv ratings as well? have we ever seen this in any of the Big 4 U.S. sports - i.e. a '3 game series'. it's very appealing. The gate sure but I don't think a 3-game series would pull in the TV ratings the way the 1-game winner take all game does.
