Saying homophobes are secretly gay is like saying white racists are secretly black. It's absurd and trivializes bigotry. I agree that it’s absurd to refer to them as being closer homosexual; though some, and by some, I mean and a small number of them, do frequently act homophobic in due a projection of their own homosexual OCD to kind of mask their symptoms out of an insecurity. If we’re referring to genuine homophobia, however, then those people do feel disgust over the thought of two men or woman making out, depending on the gender of that said person usually. Quite a few homophobes do seem to be sexually confused, possibly because their homophobia prevents them from experimentiny. I think that assuming that homophobia is caused by someone being homosexual is literally just putting a shield on the other issues that surround and cause it, typically set from social standards. By the way, Gameboy, would you say that most cases of homophobia are caused by psychological issues? No, that's why I don't like these theories that homophobes are suppressing homosexuality. It's not psychology. It's good old fashioned bigotry. You're right, obviously a few homophobes are suppressing their attraction to the same sex. But homophobia has been a problem in Western society for centuries. It all began with Leviticus in the Bible. Homophobia in our society is religious and institutionalized. For example, in ancient Greek and Roman societies there was no stigma on homosexual acts. Effeminacy was looked down upon, but any man could perform a homosexual act and he wouldn't be labeled or defined by that act. |
