Ahh, that's what I meant by squash. I was trying to think of the right word. But yeah, that's what I do too.

If that doesn't work, I throw the remainder out. I wouldn't put it down the drain, because we've had a lot of problems with clogged drains over the years, sometimes to the point of it being a nightmare for a day or two, where we haven't been able to use the shower (we only have one at home) as the landlord's flunkies try to fix it, etc. I wouldn't want to do anything that would promote hair coagulating more than it already does.

But soap melts. Does it really cause clogging problems?

I never throw mine out.

Re "melting," it doesn't do that instantaneously. Our drains have been so sensitive that I'd be worried that while it's "melting," it's blocking the drain just enough that the hair going down the drain will more likely form a clump . . . and then the hair isn't going to "melt" and we'll sooner have a problem again.
