I grew to love him, as a huge fan of The Walking Dead, where he was the kind and wise Hershel Greene. Seeing him on the aftershow, Talking Dead, and reading interviews, he came across as a quiet, gentle man who loved acting and his fellow actors. Say what you will about that show, but the cast are probably the tightest knit cast on TV, everyone whose been on it will attest to that, so I'm sure they're all deeply saddened by the news today. It was recently announced he would be returning, most likely to film flashback scenes. He's had a varied film career, I've seen him in: In the Heat of the Night In Cold Blood The Great Gatsby (1974) The Right Stuff The Aviator (1985) Blue City Malone Johnny Handsome Young Guns II The Exorcist III Pure Luck Flesh and Bone Geronimo: An American Legend Tall Tale Judge Dredd The Grass Harp Dead Man Walking G.I. Jane Clay Pigeons The Way of the Gun The Animal Pearl Harbor Monster The Last Samurai Junebug The Host (2006) Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon The Heartbreak Kid (2007) I have The Exorcist III, The Way of the Gun, Pearl Harbor, Monster, The Last Samurai and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon all in my movie collection. He really stood out in both In Cold Blood and The Great Gatsby, for me personally. Rest in peace.
