God I hope this doesn't become a model for studios to have an ingenious stream of revenue. Make a movie that you seriously cut it to the bone. Make it known that a large chunk of footage was cut. After it leaves to the theater and goes to home video, start a astroturff movement online getting the fandom riled up. Have the plants start screaming for a Extended Cut. Don't let the astroturfing start up until a lot of the normal DVD's sell. Then when you've got a decent amount of DVD sells, ramp up the astroturfing to get demand at highest peak then release the Extended Cut of the movie. I know that sounds a little like a tin foil hat conspiracy, but Big Business, especially Hollywood, has been caught doing this or something like this. So it's pretty fucking plausible. And the masses, especially, people in the fandom for that specific movie or general genre will fall for it. It could very well be. A shorter film means more showings in a day, so i could see why it would be tempting for a studio to do that.
