I am almost positive I will like The Departed better (I know myself very well), so I'm in no hurry to watch the original. Scorsese is my favorite director.

You know what? Scorsese is of my top 3 directors also and i love most of his movies. i don't consider Departed a top 10 film from his filmography. Granted i also love asian cinema, that helped me like the original also
