I probably said this before, yet Ken Dryden (maybe in his book?) said goalies really only might get stinging hurt by a puck 3-4x an entire night, & many of those are fluke shots to the facemask/helmet which is simply doing its job.
I think he was speaking in part to ppl who might be wondering about becoming a goalie &/or about putting their children in net.
The protection they wear nowadays is to become walls of padding, less about being athletic puck stoppers.
