I sincerely believe it is impossible to bridge the distance to even the nearest star outside of our solar system. I don't think there's a magic propulsion system that defies the laws of physics, and I don't think we can go into hypersleep for thousands of years. This is also the answer why no one's shown up on our doorstep, even though they had a huge head start in civilization building. Why?
All we need is time.
And assuming we avoid any artificial or natural extinction level event in the short term, we'll most likely get to the nearest star sometime within the next 1 000 years, which is just a blink on an eye compared to the total lifespan of life on Earth.
