Since always? A lot of people merely see Satan as a being of knowledge and beauty.
The philosophy behind Satanism does not conflict with being good, because in their eyes God is not good. God is the evil one, and while Satan may not be wholly "good" he is certainly the lesser evil. I'm an atheist as well, and I vehemently disagree that most people who worship God are aiming to bring peace or love to the world. Most Satanists aren't looking to bring upon evil. To them, Satan is a symbol of knowledge, and choices, and and not necessarily abiding by the hypocritical morality that religion breeds.
There are those who do worship evil, but most Satanists don't. Granted, most Satanists are atheists, and clearly that's not the case in this show, but like I said, the show is a pretty nuanced depiction anyway.
unless you ate talking about laveys satanism which is really not a traditional (spanning across centuries) meaning of what satanism is and who satan is. and in sabrina they clearly do not worship laveys non supernatuual idea of “satan” but the traditional one (so far i am on episode 3)
He's "traditionally described as clearly malevolent entity" through the religious lens, and tbh I don't see solid evidence for that either. Religion views God as an entity of love and good, but "good" is subjective. I, as an atheist, and many others (Satanists and otherwise) don't see God as good. I see him as being vindictive, insecure, petty as fuck, and pretty much everything wrong with the world. I admittedly see less of that in Satan.
I think in Sabrina they make a good case for why they worship Satan and what their problems with God are. But I do not in any way agree that they're trying to portray Satan worship as a good thing (and for the record, I don't think it's a bad thing anymore than I think God worship is). This becomes more clear the further along you get, if you choose to keep watching. The fucked up rituals and practices and the corruption within the Church of the Night become more and more clear.
