I love Dia de los Muertos, a Meso-American holiday, The Day of the Dead. For three days, people remember their relatives that have passed on, they set up shrines with things that would attract their loved one's attention, fix food that their loved ones liked, and in some instances, have a party in the cemetery and believe their loved ones are there in spirit. My heritage is as Nordic as it gets, but I love the idea of honoring the people you've loved that are gone. It certainly sounds much better and a lot nicer than whatever Halloween has been turned into by big business. Check out the link to Wikipedia I added to my post; they do a better job of explaining it all, and there is no commercialized aspect to it, it is simply about remembering the dead. I light candles and spend part of the time fixing food my dad loved, and watching movies my husband loved, and remembering cherished pets.
