I haven’t watched this movie in so long that the last time I saw it was watching my VHS copy. It was on TV recently and I’m kind of kicking myself for having missed it.
From the epic intro and seeing the live action Turtles for the first time, to witnessing in awe, the most bad ass movie version yet of The Shredder. The way he first enters the scene along with music playing in the background. It was like my generations first glimpse of classic movie villains such as Darth Vader or the Joker.
Oh yeah, definitely. I totally got a 'classic villain' vibe from this version of Shredder thanks to his entrance and how he was portrayed. I enjoyed seeing him take on all four turtles and that his only true match was Splinter. Also? His apparent ‘demise’ kind of freaked me out when I saw it at the theatre, like “Holy crap, we’re seeing a trash compacter CRUSH HIS FACE!”.
Raphael was much closer to the original comics instead of being the sarcastic jerk from the cartoon show, and his little fights with his brother Leonardo.
I remember really liking the Leonardo/Raphael dynamic in the movie. They fought, sure, but they were also there for each other (the scene that stands out the most in my memory is the one of Leonardo being there for Raphael as he’s recovering in the bathtub).
Also a big shout out to Elias Koteas, (not sure if I got his name right) but he kicked ass as Casey Jones and handled himself very well, especially with Raphael and Donatello.
Whenever I see him in anything (be it in the movie Fallen or in the third Season of The Killing), I always think, “Hey, it’s Casey Jones!”.
